ARE YOU PREPARING AN INSURANCE CLAIM INVOLVING CONSTRUCTION?
Are you a Builder who is haunted by allegations of flaws in materials or home or site-work design flaws? Is there an allegation of negligence? Builders and Owners hire me to investigate and document, and to draft specifications and get bids to fix things up. I do not work as a Builder, but I do offer Project Management services
What follow are two examples of how careful observaton, combined with research, analysis and construction savvy helped Owners make signicant out-of-court construction recoveries involving construction.
Let me listen to your situation, and perhaps take a fresh look at your situation.
A HOME OWNER WAS PUZZLED BY A DAMP SPOT THAT SHOWED UP SOMETIMES AFTER RAIN
Who would have guessed that this bothersome damp spot that came and went would result in a $320,000+ insurance recovery? When a tree crushes a car, or an exhaust fan motor siezes up, shorts out, overheats, and burns down a house, well that is what home owners insurance is for. Claims for fire and water damage are routine. But what about a little damp spot? Not much of a damage, to be sure. Nothing to get upset about. Not even covered by home owners insurance. An Attorney wondered if his prospective client was just being picky, but maybe there was more to it. I had recommended some corrective work on his own home, how to stop a recurring leak from damaging his collection of rare books. The home Owner funded a retainer, I started investigating. The more I looked, well, the story is in the attached report!
After a truck ended in his basement, a home owner noticed some doors didn't close right.
A truck skidded into a house wall, and fell through the living room floor, ending up in the basement. The insurance company offered to patch the wall and fix up the floor. It sounded like a reasonable offer, but the home Owner noticed doors that didn't close right, and some cracked plaster. The home Owner's Attorney retained me to investigate. Why did my Report find that patching was not enough?
